1. Go to the public library.
It's not very often that kids even crack open a book over the summer time, so why not take them to the library? It's a great opportunity to take your kids to the library because they won't have much of a preference as to where else to go since it's raining. Library days can actually turn out to be quite fun! Kids just have to find a type of genre of books that they're interested in. Soon after that, they'll be begging to stay a bit longer!
2. Go grocery shopping.
As a parent, there are errands that have to be done such as going grocery shopping. Taking your children grocery shopping may sound horrifying, with everyone running around, screaming at the top of their lungs, and begging you to buy junk food. A good way to make children behave while grocery shopping is to involve them in the process of it. For instance, you can have them help you keep the shopping list under a budget, which teaches them how to manage money wisely. Furthermore, it gives them a sense of accomplishment and makes them feel responsible and mature. Running errands with your children doesn't have to be so chaotic.
3. Go ice skating.
I know it may sound crazy, but ice skating is actually a very sane activity to do over the summer! It's inexpensive, fun, and will create wonderful memories with your family. Ice skating rinks usually only cost around $10 per person to enter. It definitely beats taking your family to the movie theaters, considering that tickets now cost around $9 each, when instead, you can just wait for the movie to come out and rent it for only $5 to watch with your whole family. Ice skating requires everyone to be active, which is a great way to make your kids exercise all while having tons of fun!
4. Watch movies at home.
If you have no access to a car and can't take your kids out at all, then having a movie day at home is the best solution. Nowadays, you can rent movies through the internet and watch them right off of the computer screen. It's a great way to spend time together as a family and doesn't require much preparation.
5. De-clutter the house.
A rainy summer day is an ideal day to de-clutter and organize the house. You and your kids can sort through their toys and old clothing items and either throw them out or donate them. Kids will feel wonderful being able to share their stuff with others that are less fortunate. Furthermore, organizing the house allows you and your family to free your minds of the mess and clutter that gathers up throughout the year.
