A good place to start when thinking about spending some enjoyable time with your family member or friend who happens to live in a nursing home is to find out if you can participate in any scheduled activities at the nursing home.
In order to do that, you need to know the schedule of planned activities for the nursing home. Many nursing homes print monthly calendars listing these activities, while some may even list these activities on the nursing home website. If you visit your family member or friend often, you can view the calendar given to them or perhaps look at the calendar that might be displayed somewhere on the floor where they reside.
In the event you live far away and do not visit often, you can ask your family member or friend about the various activities or perhaps you can call the nursing home and ask the activity director about upcoming activities.
Once you see an activity that you would like to enjoy with your family member or friend, you need to make sure that the activity is not for nursing home residents only. You can find this information by calling the nursing home's activity director or by asking them in person on one of your visits. If family and friends are welcome, you can plan to attend.
Participating in activities at the nursing home with your family member or friend is a great way to spend some time together. This is especially true if your family member or friend cannot travel outside the nursing home. These activities give the both of you something to do during your visits and hopefully the both of you will have a good time.
My sister, who resides in a nursing home, usually tells us about the various activities at the nursing home when we talk to her on the telephone. Knowing the activities that will take place enable us to try to take part in some of them with my sister. We know that my sister truly enjoys it when we can be present at an activity with her.
This summer my sister traveled to Atlantic City, New Jersey with the nursing home, but unfortunately, our car was not working, so we had to miss that exciting trip. We, however, were able to attend a family barbecue held at the nursing home a few weeks ago. All of us had a very enjoyable afternoon outside in the garden area of the nursing home.
Hope that the thoughts in this article gave you some useful information on how to spend some enjoyable time with your family member or friend who lives in a nursing home.
