How to Spice Up Your Blog Content

Sam Truong
Whether you own a successful blog or have just started to write, you will learn quickly learn that creative blog posts are the key to keeping your visitors entertained and happy to come back for more. Think about some of the blogs that you've read recently - aside from a clean and clear design, what is it about the blog that has you staying a little longer to read what the author has to say? It's the content of course, and if you're feeling that your writing is beginning to become a little dry, here are a few tips on what you can do to get your game on.

Think carefully about the title

Your blog title can be the fine line between a visitor losing interest within a matter of seconds or deciding that you've got something worth reading. A good technique to apply when naming a blog post is to leave out some of the details on whatever it is you decide to write about. If you are too direct, people can usually decide if they want to read your post in a matter of seconds. If you wrap the words around a little however, it is more likely that someone will take a quick peek just out of curiosity. If your writing is good enough, that might be all it takes for a new subscriber.

Some examples:

If you were writing a post on how Torrent downloads are being tracked:

Torrent Users Crackdown Through ISP (Easily identified as a technology topic)

could become,

The Invasion Of Home Privacy (Applies to a broader audience)

The target audience is broadened with the second title.

Keep your writing sweet

Unless you're an automated writing robot, you'll find that there are times when your creativity doesn't flow as well as it normally does. It's just not logically possible to work at 100% 24 hours, 7 days a week. To write efficiently, you will need to find the right 'moment' to start creating your blog post. Don't push yourself by a timetable to keep releasing new posts every day - work when you feel passionate about what you are writing, and enjoy what you create. Always have a goal in mind when you publish an article, whether its simply having your thoughts out in the open or replying to a request for help you've received via e-mail.

That being said, focus on the coherency and structuring of your paragraphs. If the paragraphs you write tend to be too bulky, separate it into several smaller ones and assign each paragraph a 'point' that supports the structure of your argument. If you are finding it difficult to assign a point to a particular paragraph, it is possible that you are rambling on and need to run another check on the content inside.

If your writing is complex and you tend to create longer posts, its probably a good idea to work on it a little at a time. Aim to write quality, not quantity. What you feel is important for your post may not be so logical or necessary in your mind after a good nights sleep.

Get some comments

Comments are always useful because they give credit to your post by displaying to a reader that others have shown enough interest to take the time to post a reply. If you're starting out small, asking others to review your blog post is not a bad idea. You can usually work this out by exchanging comments, and who knows, if they like what they see, all the better for you.
