The first thing you have to know is what type of bowling ball you are using. Not all bowling balls are created equal. For example, if you have a plastic ball, it normally goes in a straight line. It is difficult to get a good spin on this type of ball. However, if have a urethane ball, which was developed in the 1970s, or a reactive resin ball, which was developed in the 1990s, you can get more of a hook on your ball.
Since the thumbs and finger holes in "House" bowling balls vary greatly, you have to find one that fits your hand. The holes are normally wider in the larger balls and smaller in the lighter ones. If you have large or small hands, you may find it hard to find a ball in your ideal w. Therefore, you have to check the conventional grip of different bowling balls to find one that suits your hand.
Cradle a ball in your non-throwing arm. Try to put your thumb, index and middle fingers into the finger holes. If the finger holes are too tight, try this with another ball with the same weight. Keep trying the balls until you find one where you can easily slide you fingers in and allows your thumb to come out easily. When you are testing the finger holes, your palm should be in full contact with the ball.
When you roll the ball down the alley, the fingers should slide out easily. If they stick, you will not get a good spin. Therefore, you should pick more than one ball before you start your game.
You may also consider purchasing your own bowling ball. Sometimes you may not be able to find the perfect ball at the bowling alley. Once you know your desired weight, color and brand of bowling ball, go to a sporting goods store. These bowling balls are costumed made for your hand because your fingers get measured and the holes are drilled after you decide which ball to get.
You may not believe this, but the type of shoes you wear has an impact on your spin. You have to have a pair that allows you to slide and brake as you deliver your ball. Rental shoes are just for beginners. You really should consider purchasing your own pair. Not only will you improve your spin, but you will not be paying those rental fees.
In the past, outside of bowling alleys, it was difficult to buy bowling shoes. However, since bowling is more popular than ever different stores, such as sports clothing, accessory and shoe stores, have added bowling shoes to their product line.
There are two styles of bowling shoes. They are the athletic and performance shoes.
The athletic shoe looks and feels like a regular athletic shoe. However, it is made for bowling. The have a sliding sole on both shoes. This type of shoe is excellent for beginner and occasional bowlers.
The performance bowling shoe is ideal for those who want to improve their bowling score. The soles are different in a pair of these shoes. One shoe is used for sliding while the other is used for braking. Since the sliding shoe is worn on the foot that is opposite of the throwing hand, there are left handed bowling shoes and right handed ones.
Whether you are buying a pair of athletic or performance bowling shoes, make sure you get the right width. For example, if you have a wide foot, purchase a shoe that has a wide width. Do not get a shoe that is too light or too loose. They must have a snug fit. A wrongly fitted shoe can throw you off balance and hurt your performance.
Now that you have your bowling ball and shoes, it is time to get a spin on your ball. Before you test out your spin for the first time, walk up to the foul line, make sure nobody is bowling in the lanes next to you. There are ten dots six feet away from the foul line and seven arrows fifteen feet away. These are what you focus on when you roll your ball, not the head pin.
If you are bowling right handed, focus of the second arrow on the right side of the lane. If you are left handed, focus on the arrow on the left side on the lane. Now that you know which arrows to aim for, get into your starting position. Standing with both feet together, position your shoulder and ball over the target arrow. Keeping your feet perpendicular to your shoulders, walk towards the target arrow. Swing the ball back behind you and lean slightly forward. When you get to the foul line, swing your ball forward and keep your palm up. As you release the ball, make sure your thumb comes out of the finder hole first. The index finger and middle fingers then should slide out at the same time.
By following these simple instructions, you will be getting the spin on your ball in no time at all. The basic things to remember is knowing what type of ball your are using, if your ball is fitted for your hand and that you have the right type of bowling shoes. The main thing is to keep your palm facing up when your release your ball. Do not give up if your ball does not spin the way you want. All it takes is a little practice.
