How to Make Split Pea Soup Crockpot Style

R. Geary
This is an easy recipe and a great hearty soup for any time of year. It is also relatively inexpensive to make. Once again, I estimate the amount for the ingredients, so use your own judgment and take into consideration the size of your Crockpot. You want to leave a couple inches of space between the cover and the soup.

Ingredients:
1 package dried green split peas
1 large onion diced
2 tsp minced garlic
3 lg carrots diced
3 celerys diced
5 cups chicken broth
1 or 2 potatoes peeled and cut into small cubes (optional)
1 package of ham hocks
salt and pepper and any other seasonings you like to taste

1. Put all of the ingredients in Crockpot.

2. Cover and cook on high 6 hours or low 11 hours, until peas are very soft and falling apart.

3. Remove ham. Wait until it is cool enough to handle. Cut meat off bone, dice and return to soup.

Serve with warm bread (cornbread is delicious) or toast croutons and serve on top. Then enjoy! Mmmmm.

I am not a fan of pea soup, but my mom and sister love it. I will pass this on to them.
