How to Spot a Fake Prada Handbag

Dianne CH
When you purchase a designer handbag such as Prada, you expect it to be authentic although there is no guarantee that it is the real thing. However, there are guidelines that you can follow to separate the fakes from the real thing. In the end, there are not guarantees. If looks like it is too good to be true, it usually is.

Examine the hardware on the handbag. Prada only uses antique brass for the hardware. If it looks like it is anything else, it is probably not an authentic Prada. Study the size and condition of the hardware. Prada bags are expensive for a reason and if the metal hardware such as the zippers, clasps or buckles appears rusty or worn down, this is a tell tale sign that the bag is a knockoff.

Look at the handle or strap, which should be in excellent condition. If it is frayed or showing exposed threads, it is not an authentic Prada purse.

Check the lining of the bag, which should have an embroidered Prada logo on it. The lining should be constructed out of fine leather, velvet or high quality cotton. The seams will be invisible with no exposed threads. Many knockoff handbags have shabby looking linings.

Only purchase a designer Prada handbag from a reputable dealer or high-end department store. These bags are only sold at these places. Be weary of purchasing a bag from a street vendor or another online source. Ebay and other auction sites may have authentic bags for sale, but be careful. Study the seller's feedback history and ask many questions about the bag. Ask to see photos and scrutinize the details.

Overall, just be suspicious if you are purchasing an authentic bag for a price under $100. These bags cost a lot for a reason and only the finest materials and craftmanship are used for these handbags.
