The first indicator of a liar is the body language. A person who is guilty or is lying will avoid eye contact. Look at eye movement and shifting towards the corners of the eye. A person who is lying will generally touch areas of his body excessively, areas including but not limited the face and throat.
The second indicator of a liar is found in his words and what he says. If you ask a person who is lying to tell a story and then you ask him to tell it backwards, it will be impossible for him. If his emotions and facial expressions and his words do not match up, it is a clear sign of lying. Liars will often deflect a question, or give an answer to a question that was not asked. If you ask him, "Did you murder this man," a liar will often reply, "I believe that murder is wrong." Liars will continue to try to persuade you that he is not lying to you. Also, he may never say it directly, but people unknowingly accent different words in their speech that give away the truth. For example, if he says, "I didn't take it," it means that he took something else of yours. It is important to note how he says it. Often, people who lie need to make up their story on the spot so they will take more time in giving explanations and pause many times. However, beware of those people who think up of a cover story and can recite it off the top of their head. Unnatural responses deserve a raised eyebrow and a warning signal should go off in your head. After he says something, he will often look up to get reassurance that you are buying it. This is done systematically. It is funny but people who lie often use the question "You don't believe me right?" Stories that come from liars often don't involve anyone but themselves because they do not have enough time to consider their story from an outside perspective. A liar is only focused on getting you to believe him. Therefore, they will gladly answer any questions that you may have but will offer none in return. If he changes the topic of the conversation very quickly, he is lying. These topic changers usually begin with "Oh yea," as if he had suddenly remembered.
After you accuse someone of lying, you will immediately notice some signs. If the person is truly innocent, they will stand up straight and face you directly. If they are lying, they will attempt to put as much distance between the two of you as humanly possible. They will also place objects such as desks and chairs between you when he is talking to you. These are both signs of running away and you can immediately tell if the person you are speaking with is standing at an unnatural distance from you. These are only some of the common signs but telling a lie is not that difficult. Everything in the liar's body language is screaming out that he is lying, you only need to be able to pick up on the clues.
