How to Make Spring Cleaning a Profitable and Fun Experience for the Whole Family

Robert Morse
Spring time is a wonderful time of year all the plants are starting there new blooms for the summer and everything seems fresh and new. So why not do the same with your home. A little spring cleaning can do wonders for the way you feel about home as well as help you out in the pocket book. When you start your spring cleaning it might be a little overwhelming at first. When I started in my home I was amazed at the amount of stuff I had acquired in the last year. No kidding I had stuff waist high all the way though my two car garage and just about every closet in my house was stacked to the ceiling with stuff I didn't use just sitting there collecting dust, it was depressing. Now I'm sure that if you're reading this your house is kind of like mine was.

Now the first you have to do is get organized make a space in your garage and get some boxes to put your extra stuff in. Free boxes are easy to get from your local grocery store. Plan a garage sale make it your deadline for when you are going to have your spring cleaning finished. Pick a room of your house and start there go through each room one by one. Do not start on another room until you finish the one you are working on. If you skip around from room to room it will much harder to stay organized. When you finish the room you are working on take the things you are going to get rid of down to the designated area in your garage and then repeat for the next room. After you go though each room in your home its time to get ready for your garage sale. The prices you put on your stuff is up to you, but make sure you put prices on your stuff. Garage sale customers are timid about making offer on things that are not marked with a price. Many stores like your local Wal-Mart will sell stickers with prices marked on them. then you will be ready for you garage sale.

When I had my garage sale I was very happy at the end of the weekend we made about three hundred and fifty dollars selling the unwanted things from around our house. My family and I went out to a big dinner and had a great time working together and bonding as a family. Now my twin daughters are only about a year old, so my wife and I did all the work, but the stuff that they don't use anymore hit the best seller list at the garage sale and they loved the attention they got at from all of the shoppers.

Now after your garage sale you will more then likely have some left over items to get rid of. This is where those boxes you collected for organizing your stuff will come in handy. Pack up all of your left over stuff and off to your local charitable thrift store. Goodwill is my favorite place to donate. They make it real easy to donate, they help you unload your car and give you a itemized tax receipt. You list the items you donated and the estimated value. Then save the receipt until you do your next years taxes. You can get a tax right off for all of the stuff that you donate. Its kind of like having money in the bank until next tax season.

At the end of it all you will have a lot less clutter feel one hundred percent better about your home. Plus you get the bonus of a couple extra dollars in your pocket and a tax right off for next year. Good luck
