How to Have a Spring Yard Sale

7 Unique Tips to Set Your Yard Sale Apart from the Others

Tyler Emerson
It is spring and yard sales are beginning to pop up all over town. This is a time when people begin to visit their attics, basements, and closets to see what is no longer needed or has not been used in years. How can you turn your belongings into profit? Well, it is time to set your yard sale apart from the others by placing these unique twists on a spring tradition.

1. Make your yard sale posters and flyers standout. Use bright poster board that can be seen and read from a distance. Use catchy phrases that will peak interest just like the popular and trendy stores tend to do. Decorate your posters in a way that shows you mean business. Also, include your address and the times of the sale.

2. Based on the rules within your housing community, start early and finish late. Many yard sales begin early in the morning yet end before many people hit the road. So, make your products available for the late risers who are still looking for deals.

3. Be organized by having clothes either neatly folded or on hangers. Separate clothing by gender, size, and type (i.e. jeans versus dresses).

4. Have the prices labeled on the items. This is as simple as placing colored stickers on the items where either the color represents a price or you can write the price on the sticker. This way, all those who are facilitating the yard sale are on the same page as far as the prices.

5. If you have a special talent such as making beaded jewelry, flower arrangements, or crocheting, set aside a table for your unique creations. Let customers know the items are hand-made. This is a great way to promote your talent and hopefully make the community aware that you are the go-to person if they ever want a beaded necklace, centerpiece, or scarf.

6. To attract attention and to further make your customers feel welcome, create a positive atmosphere. Have a stand with water or lemonade, play inviting music, and be sure to meet and greet each person as well as thanking them for stopping by.

7. Finally, whatever did not sell, either post it on an online site (i.e. ebay), give it to someone you know or donate it to an organization to support those in need.

It is the season to begin clearing out the old and making space for the new. Consider what you are able to part with and even how your talents may contribute to the yard sale. To be successful and unique, consider these seven tips and get ready for great sales!
