How to Make a Springtime Wreath

Pearlygates
It is relatively easy to make a wreath and a lot of fun. You can make your springtime wreath as simple or elaborate as you want. There are so many different materials you can use to make a wreath; you probably have a lot of materials you could use around the house.

For the base of your Springtime Wreath:

Metal Rings Bases are metal rings that are welded together to make a circle. These are nice if you want a perfectly round circle or need a strong base.
Grapevine Bases are wonderful for a natural, rustic or country look. They are relatively inexpensive and come in many shapes and sizes.
Straw Bases are very inexpensive and make a nice base for a springtime wreath. They are good for gluing materials to.
Foam Bases are a good choice for working with fabrics, ribbons or lace. They are perfect when you need a light weight wreath.
A Clothes Hanger can be used to make a base for a wreath also. Make it as circular as possible, take a pair of pliers and turn the hook into a loop and twist together, to turn it into a hanger.

Supplies and Tools Used in Making a Wreath:

Florist Wire is sold in different gauges and is good for a variety of tasks. If you are going to get one basic gauge of wire, a 28 gauge is a good choice.
Stem Wire is used for adding on length to a stem and for making picks.
Florist Wire or S-Pins are used to attach large flower heads, bows or other materials to the base of your wreath.
Straight Pins are good when you need to attach materials to a foam wreath base.
Floral Tape is used to hide wires that would show through on your wreath.
Glue Gun and Glue Sticks are a necessity when making a wreath. The instant drying makes this an easy way of attaching materials.
Craft Glue or Tacky Glue are good for a number of different tasks, such as gluing ends of picks to stay in the wreath base.
Other items such as scissors, wire cutter, utility knife, tweezers, twine and colored embroidery threads can also be useful supplies.

For Covering and Decorating your Springtime Wreath:

Materials used for covering the base of a wreath can be glued or wired on. Such materials as bay leaves, lemon leaves, eucalyptus, mosses, and dried flowers can all be glued on a straw base.
Metal ring bases are good to wire on materials. Materials with stems are good for this, dried flowers such as roses, hydrangeas, lavender, herbs and eucalyptus are all good choices.
Materials like ribbon, lace, crepe paper, strips of fabric all make good coverings for a foam base.

Materials used for decorating your springtime wreath can be endless.
Of course all the flowers you can think of fresh, dried or silk. From your yard, the florist, the grocery store or even the dollar bill store, all will have beautiful spring colors. Pussy willows, apple tree branches and different shrubs. Use small items such as birds, tiny baskets or little straw hats. Make you would like a theme on your springtime wreath, if you like butterflies, angels or fairies. You can do a bird theme with birds, birdhouses and nests. Maybe you would like a garden theme using little garden tools, terra cotta pots, sprinkling can, wheel-barrow, garden hat and gloves. The garden theme would be cute on a grapevine base.

For filling in spaces on the springtime wreath you can use small bunches of hydrangeas, statice, baby's breath, peonies. You can wire a pick to strawflowers, feverfew, larkspur, lavender or yarrow. You can fill in spaces by gluing on moss.

To finish off your wreath you can add a bow made of fabric, ribbon or raffia.

So... get a wreath base, some covering, flowers, decorations and a few simple supplies and make yourself a springtime wreath to enjoy.
