How to Get Stains Out of Your Dog's White Coat

My dog is mainly white, and keeping her coat clean can be a real pain, particularly in her tail feathers and hind end. I can bathe her as much as I want, but once those yellow or brown stains set in, it's hard to get them out without the proper supplies. Baking soda is a white dog's best friend, for many reasons. In general, white dogs or predominately white dogs tend to have sensitive skin, so they have flaky, irritated skin on top of a white coat that stains easily. Baking soda is a great natural solution for both of these issues, in both removing the stains from the fur and soothing the easily bothered skin.

When I bathe my dog's white coat, I pour a quarter cup of baking soda straight into her bath water (I fill the tub about 3 to 4 inches deep). I use the baking soda water to soak my dog and give her a quick rinse, allowing the baking soda to penetrate into her skin and remove stains and odors from her coat at the same time.

For troublesome stain areas, like her hind end, tail feather, and her neck, I take a small handful of baking soda and add a bit of water to make a paste and work this through her sensitive areas. I allow the baking soda bath to 'set' for 5 minutes, then rinse her off entirely with fresh water from the tap.

Baking soda not only removes her stains, but it soothes her itchy feet and skin and removes any odors. My dog looks so white she almost glows silver after this simple bath, and doesn't scratch for up to a month (she has skin allergies).
