Lay the stamp out to dry on some absorbent paper. Once the stamp is all dry, place a heavy, flat object on top of the stamp, this will help to flatten the stamp out a bit. Remember that when it comes to stamp collecting you need to know that this past time requires patience and delicate movements as well as some neatness. Once the stamp is dry and flattened, put your stamp in your stamp album.

Stamp collecting has been around for years, and it still continues to be one of the most popular past times out there. A typical stamp collector collects any type of stamps that he or she can get. This can include stamps from letters, stamps from different countries as well as special edition stamps. Once they start their stamp collection, they develop pages full of different stamps in their collecting notebook. These notebooks can be passed down from family to family, and are incredibly neat to look through.

The first thing that you are going to need before you officially start stamp collecting, it a stamp notebook, or stamp album. These notebooks and albums are specifically designed to hold stamps in place with mounting tapes that are commonly referred to as hinges. Because stamps are so fragile and you do not want to damage them in any sort of way, you are going to need a few tools to extract your stamps from letters or pieces of paper. Using tweezers or small tongs are the best type of tool for dealing with something that is so delicate. If you are just starting out, then start collecting stamps from mail that you receive everyday. In order to remove a stamp from an actual letter you are going to tear the paper that surrounds the stamp, so that you are just dealing with a small space instead of an entire envelope. From there, you are going to soak the stamp in some warm water, this will loosen things up a bit, and make it easier to get the stamp off of the remaining part of the envelope. Once the stamp is soaked, take your tongs or tweezers, and peel the stamp off of the paper.

Many stamp collectors love to collect the special edition stamps that are released by the local post office. These stamps are typically worth a lot of money as they years go by due to the fact that they will not be made anymore, once they are all sold out by the post offices. Collectors also love to collect stamps that have various designs, or animals, such as exotic birds, or various marine life.

If you have children who are getting into stamp collecting, try to encourage them to get a pen pal from another country. This will enable your child to start to collect various stamps from different countries. Not only will they get some neat stamps, they will make some new friends as well.

Stamp collecting is not only a fun past time, but it is educational as well. If you develop the right stamp collection, you could end up having a very valuable collection of stamps. Have fun, and happy collecting.
