Mary Drew
Spring is here, it's the time of the year for all of us gardeners to start working in our yards and getting the ground ready for this year's amazing garden. Well that's fine for the experienced green thumb gardener but if you're a novice with it, researching the how-to's will defiantly help and this is the perfect place to start. Check out these great steps to start you on the way to get that amazing garden of your own!

Step 1: Sign up for a garden classes. Most do-it-yourself home stores offer short afternoon classes in the basic of various projects. Some will offer gardening classes as well as some garden nurseries at little or even no cost to you.

Step 2: Plan everything out first from what type of garden you want, what kind of plants you are interested in having in your garden, to the location you are going to put it at in your yard. This will really provide you with the information you need to be able ask and to get the correct answers to all your questions.

Step 3: Take some time to look around at your options. Invest an afternoon looking at the foliage, flowers or vegetables you would like to plant. Ask yourself these questions: Are they spring season, summer season or fall seasoned plants? Will you start from a seed garden? How big of an area do you need to fill in?

Step 4: Prepare your garden. Make sure the location of your new garden area gets at least 6-8 hours of sun light. Frame in your garden location with a border. You can use recycled lumber, rocks or bricks to reduce cost and then lay down a barrier inside the frame to help control any weeds and grass from coming up. Garbage bags will work fine for this either paper or plastic.

Step 5: Filling in the space with dirt. Make sure you get a good mixture of manure, compost and soil. I do half soil and half manure along with compost in mine but you should check with your local nursery on what they recommend for the type of garden you are interested in planting.

Step 6: Layout your plants. Make sure you read and plant according to the recommendations on the plants labels. After you have all the plants laid out according to recommended spacing, you can start planting but remember to recheck the labels for appropriate depths to dig. Place tags by plant after planted it so you can refer to watering and feeding care instructions later. Again good planning will really help to know how to group your plants up.

Step 7: Water it well and enjoy your hard work!

No matter what you choose flower to vegetable garden soon you will be clipping the delights they bear and sharing them with family and friends. Let your garden be amazing and the envy of all green thumb gardeners.
