Completely Going Green means buying organic produce. Face it, organic food although great for the planet and the farm workers it much more expensive than non-organic produce. Completely Going Green means buying recycled toilet paper and other paper goods like napkins and paper towels cost more than regular non-recycled varieties of the same products. Additionally, recycled paper towels are not as absorbent and recycled toilet paper is not as soft.
Thankfully there are some no cost things you can do to that qualify as Going Green that don't require you to shop at a more expensive supermarket. The first no cost thing you can do is reduce your consumption of plastic shopping bags. According to reusablebags.com, the world uses up to one trillion of these bags a year. You can start Going Green by choosing paper bags at the grocery store and then reusing them on you subsequent grocery store trips. The problem with reusing bags is that we always seem to forget to bring them. If Going Green is important to you, simply fold the bags when you get home and place five or ten of them in the trunk of your car so you don't forget them the next time you go to the store.
Another no cost thing you can do to start the process of Going Green is recycle. Most communities in the United States have a recycling program. If recycling in your community is not mandatory you may not be participating. If Going Green is important to you start recycling today. There is no cost to you to participate and a big cost to the environment if you don't.
Now that you are doing two new no cost things to start Going Green why not a third. Become a part of the Reuse Cycle. Don't throw away old clothes, linens, home furnishings and electronic. If you are really interested in Going Green rather than putting these things in the garbage, drop them off at your local drop off bin, Salvation Army or Goodwill.
Here is a fact that may shock you into Going Green. According to http://www.usedclothes.ca/info.html "If all the textiles that are thrown away in one year were compressed together they could fill a solid structure, as wide and tall as the Skydome, 3 times over." With the economy in such a rut more people need free or reduced price clothes and linens that ever before. Becoming part of the Reuse Cycle by donating textiles helps you community and helps save the planet.
