Do I need to file paperwork to begin homeschooling in Connecticut?
Homeschool guidelines in Connecticut dictate that within 10 days of the start of a home instruction program, parents must file a "Notice of Intent" form with the local superintendent. This however, is a guideline and not a law. Some school districts respect a parents right to not file, while others may insist that you file the paperwork. If requested, you do need to provide provide the child's name, age and information concerning school attendance. This can be done is a simple letter.
What ages does a child need to be homeschooled?
A student between the ages of five and eighteen should be educated, unless the child has graduated. Parents may elect to delay education for a five or six year old.
What do I need to teach my students?
The state makes no recommendations for homeschool curriculum. It does designate that the child be taught reading, writing, spelling, English, grammar, geography, arithmetic, United States history, and citizenship, including a study of the town, state, and federal governments.
