How to Start a Jewelry Business

Would you like to start your own business selling jewelry? It's possible if you do a little research. Most people are interested in finding a good deal on jewelry and will buy it from you if the price is right. Jewelry is often bought as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. When you set up your jewelry stand in places where people gather, you will be able to sell jewelry to customers.

Look in your local yellow pages directory to find flea market locations . Flea markets allow vendors to rent space in their buildings in order to sell merchandise. Rental prices are reasonable. The prices vary depending on whether you rent an outdoor or indoor stall.

Visit the flea markets where you would like to sell the jewelry. Walk around the flea market and see what merchandise is selling well. If it looks like most of the shoppers are buying jewelry, you may want to rent space at that flea market. You will have a better chance of selling the unwanted jewelry.

Rent space from the flea market. Several days before you go to sell the jewelry, determine the price you want to charge. You can purchase price stickers from an office supply store and place them on the jewelry. This way there will be no question as to how much the jewelry costs. Make sure your prices are reasonable but still allow you to make a profit.

Drive to the bank and get sufficient change. You will want a variety of one-dollar bills, five-dollar bills, and 10-dollar bills. Make sure you have a supply of quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies. It's a good idea to avoid dealing with a lot of change by setting the jewelry at prices that don't involve scrounging around for pennies, nickels, and dimes.

Go to the flea market early and set up your merchandise. Arrange your jewelry in an attractive manner on the card tables. Drape the attractive table cloths on tops. Put your cash box in a secure area. The cash box should contain the change you received from the bank.

Sell your jewelry at your flea market stall by being friendly and helpful. Decide early on whether or not you intend to haggle with customers. Flea market customers love to get great deals so you may want to come down on a price if it won't hurt your profit and you want to make that sale.

What if you'd like to sell jewelry at work? Get permission from your employer to sell your jewelry in the break room. This is ideal for those who don't want the hassle of selling at a flea market. Other ways are to sell your jewelry at an online auction or hold a garage sale and let the jewelry customers come to you. If you're web savvy, learn how to design your own online jewelry store. There are several companies, such as Amazon, that help you create your own website.
