How to Start an Online Photo Account and the Benefits of Doing So

If you have a digital camera and find yourself deleting more pictures than you use, procrastinating about printing them off, or not liking the quality of photos you are printing at home, among many other reasons, than opening an online photo account could be the way to go. Doing so is fairly easy, has many benefits, not to mention it is a great way to store and organize your photos.

How to begin:

First of all you will need to find a company that offers online photo storage and printing. I have tried many and like Shutterfly, Wink Flash, and Photo Works the best, in that order. There are many others to try and choose from, however, it is simply a matter of trying the companies out.

Many companies offer a great introductory offer, such as free prints and free shipping and handling on your first order.

Once you have located the company you would like to try you will need to set up an account with them. This is just a matter of entering your personal information, such as name, address, and e-mail account on their specified forms. Doing so is simple and the website will guide you through as you go. When choosing a sign-in and password, if applicable, be sure it is one you are going to remember easily.

Then you will want to upload your photos. These sites allow for individual online albums to be made, so you can organize and store as you please. It is easy to move or copy items from album to album as well, should you change your mind about where you want them to be stored.

Ordering is easy as well. It is just a matter of choosing the photos you want, easily done with the click of a mouse. You can edit them as you like, depending on what the site offers. Common editing features on these sites are things such as red eye removal, black and white photos, sepia photos, borders, captions, increasing light, darkening a photo, turning a photo into a drawing, photo restoration, etc. There are many more options available as well, it is just a matter of knowing what your chosen site offers.

Other benefits: There are also many benefits that come along with joining on online photo service. You can create items or gifts out of your photographs that you may never have thought of before. For example, common offered items are jewelry, playing cards, greeting cards, coffee cups, mouse pads, coasters, puzzles, t-shirts, stickers, notebooks, and calendars, just to name a few. The options are very plentiful. Throughout the year, depending on the site you join, you may also receive specials or codes for free items or free shipping and handling on purchases that you make.

You can also order photos in any size or number that you wish, including extra small and extra large sizes.

There is also the added benefit of being able to instantly share your selected photographs of choice online with your friends and family members. You simply select the pictures you want to share, enter your friend's e-mail address as requested, and a link with your pictures will be sent to them. It is just that easy. And in most cases (check your site to be sure) no spam mail will be sent to you or the recipient of your shared photographs.

Another benefit is that you can obtain free prints from most sites simply by sharing the website with others. If they join and order anything, free prints are credited to your account.

The convenience of an online photo storage is one that can create a real joy to you in organizing, storing and ordering the photos you want. There is no commitment needed to order, and storage of your photos is most time unlimited. The one word of caution I would give, however, is that as with most online ordering sites, your credit card information may be stored in your account settings. You can request this be deleted and not stored for future orders, if that is the case. It is always a good idea to take precautions when doing any kind of transactions with credit cards, but most especially if you are doing so online. If you prefer to pay by check or money order, the sites have options available to do that as well.

These sites are just a really neat way to get and keep your photographs organized and accessible.
