Caboodles were the mainstay of my makeup organization for, like, ever. Mine was purple and pink, and I loved it. But as a semi-grownup makeup junkie, I have way more loot than I could ever stuff in a Caboodle. So I started the search for a better way to organize my beauty stash. For now, it's a disaster. Q-tips piled here, brushes in a cup over there. Mascaras and liners are in a plastic draw, and everything else is tossed in a mish-mosh of baskets and piled on a wire cart. I can never find what I want when I want it. And I seriously can't stand the clutter. So I found a couple of new ideas for makeup. Here's my favorite.
Makeup Board. This is a cool idea that I've come across on Pinterest and Etsy. Take a dry erase board (whatever size you like) and glue a pretty fabric over it and then frame it. Match it to your style, your bathroom, whatever. Then glue small but strong magnets onto the back of all of your makeup pieces. Just make sure they're strong enough to hold your items. Hang your makeup board on the wall, and stick all your pieces to it. It looks cute if everything is uniform. The best part is that you can see everything at a glance. The downsize is it might look cluttered. Still, its a cute idea and easy to make.
Jewelry Armoire. Jewelry armoires are like dressers with lots of small drawers in them. How perfect to stash your makeup! A draw for liners, a draw for mascara, a draw for foundation... you get the idea. And if your like me, a few drawers for my 'extra' stash that I'm saving for a rainy day. They could be expensive, but you might find a great looking piece at a yard sale.
Train case. A train case is a sort of grown up caboodle. I have a black faux-leather case that I love. It doesn't really hold much more than a caboodle, though. If you have plenty of money to burn, professional makeup artist cases hold a ton of beauty loot. On the down side, they take quite a few pennies to purchase.
Matching baskets. Baskets are a cute idea, especially if you have enough that match. You could line them up on a shelf. They would be pretty eye catching, but you might not be able to see your makeup very well.
CD storage. Some CD shelves have lots of small spaces, perfect to stash your stuff. Since the shelves are small, your makeup wouldn't get lost in it. The down side? You'd look like you have a CD tower in your bathroom.
If you just have a few items, or even a few favorite items, a silver tray would be a cute way to display them. Even a spice rack could hold your makeup in a fun way. A vanity works great, if you have the space. Or you can just be like me. And have your makeup stashed and stuffed into anything imaginable.
