How to Stay Cool and Beat the Heat

In summer many wonder how to stay cool but with a few tips you can be more comfortable.

How to Stay Cool: Use Your Freezer

When looking for how to stay cool tips use your freezer for more than food. A few hours before bed place your pillow in the freezer. If you do not have room then dampen (not soak) your pillowcase and freeze it. This will help cool you, hopefully long enough to fall asleep.

Freezing ice packs is another tip when looking for how to stay cool. Use ice packs to cool your head, wrists, and feet. By cooling these areas of your body you can reduce your overall body temperature.

How to Stay Cool: Set Up Your House

Many have wondered how to stay cool in a non-air conditioned home. During the day you should keep the curtains closed to reduce the amount of sun allowed in. It is also beneficial to close all but two windows opposite each other and place a fan pointing out of one window and another pointing inside. This will cause an air tunnel to form that could keep you cooler.

Another "how to stay cool" tip is to soak your shirt in water, wear it and sit in front of a fan. This will cool you dramatically! It also helps to take a cool shower during the hottest part of the afternoon. Instead of drying completely off, air dry in front of a fan.

How to Stay Cool: Go Outside

Sometimes the best "how to stay cool" tip is to go outside. Sit in the shade under a sprinkler. Kids will love this but adult can enjoy it as well. You may also find that the outdoors is cooler than your home in general. How to stay cool can sometimes translate into how to stay out of your house!

How to Stay Cool: Leave

Another tip on how to stay cool is to leave. The library will keep you cool and entertained but you can also go to the mall or, better yet, the city pool. Plan your shopping for the hottest parts of the day. The grocery store may be relaxing when you can shop in air conditioning.

How to Stay Cool: Be Safe

While there are many tips on how to stay cool it is just as important to stay safe. Drink water (don't forget your pets!) even if you're not thirsty. Check on your neighbors and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Hopefully these "how to stay cool" tips will cool you off!
