How to Stay Cool on the Golf Course

Sophie Spyrou
Summertime is a great time for many to go golfing, especially when there are summer golf specials just waiting to be snapped up. But it can be a challenge to go golfing in the heat and detract from your enjoyment if you end up suffering from heat exhaustion. How can you stay cool on the golf course during summer?

Opt for an Early Tee Time

Do you normally tee off mid-afternoon? If so, you will probably find it a struggle to concentrate on your swing and keep cool during the blazing afternoon sun. Try to pick an early tee time when it will be cooler on the golf course so that you can stay cool and enjoy your time even more without being distracted by the heat.

Hire a Golf Cart

A golf cart does more than transport you from one hole to the next. It also provides a measure of shade and rest from the sun. Take advantage of the benefits of a golf cart by taking cover whenever your partner is golfing. Sit down for a brief break to help conserve your energy and to refresh yourself. Just a few moments' rest in between holes or shots can make a big difference when you are out golfing on a blazing hot summer's day.

Stay Well Hydrated

It is important to stay well hydrated while you are out on the golf course, as you will be exerting yourself. Avoid alcoholic or carbonated drinks, as these will dehydrate, rather than hydrate you. Carry a water bottle with you and make sure you take regular sips of water while you are on the golf course to avoid the hazards of dehydration, heat exhaustion and possibly even heatstroke.

Wear a Hat

Wearing a hat can do much to deflect the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. Choose a wide-brimmed hat for the best protection from the sun and to keep your head covered and cool.

It can be a challenge to stay cool on the golf course during summer, but it is certainly doable if you take protective measures. One way to do this is to opt for an early tee time before it gets too hot so that you can get the most out of your day. Hiring a golf cart can also help you stay cool, as you take cover while your partner is up. Do not forget to stay well hydrated, by carrying a water bottle with you, and avoiding alcoholic or carbonated drinks. Wearing a hat can also help keep you cool by deflecting the sun's harmful rays from your head.
