How to Stay Fed and Clean Without Much Money

Money Schmoney - Necessities Can Be Had for Free

Anyone without a trust fund will know what a lot of young college students go through; and what it is like to be broke and starving. Now, one attends college in the hopes that he'll make a lot of money in the future but it takes a lot of money to attend college and if the students had a lot of money they wouldn't be going to college thus in lies the big dilemma. Between student loans, credit card debts, and the many necessities of education (text books, lap top, candy bars) a minimum wage nine to five barely keeps one's head above the figurative waves. So, folks have had to come up with some clever ways of staying alive without money.

Gone are the days of farming for your lunch, but in this urban jungle scavenging is still a viable option. You just have to know where to stalk. Some people have found the best scavenging sites to be car dealerships. Most dealerships have two waiting rooms, one for the paperwork and another for the service department. In these waiting rooms they stock the breakfast of champions, doughnuts and coffee. All you have to do is walk in and claim what is rightfully yours. The attendants on duty will presume you are with someone who has bought or is buying a car and won't make a fuss about your complimentary meal and with the amount of dealerships in town there are enough hunting grounds to feed everyday without anyone growing suspicious with your actions. Why, you could feed yourself at least once per day from these dealership feasts.

Hygiene is generally a necessity for most people. Not as important as food, but relatively important in its own right, especially in a social aspect. However, just like everything else, the price of clean has skyrocketed in recent years. A local convenience store in my area sells a single bar of soap at fifty cents a pop. This inflation of sanitation is enough to break even the best of budgets so again we have to resort to our cleverness. Hotels give out thousands of bars of soap, shampoo, and towels everyday. It is just a matter of finding the maids cart. The best time to go 'shopping' is during the middle of the day when most of their guests are out and about enjoying the local landscape for this is when the maids will be on duty. Simply walk up to a cart and ask for an extra bar of soap, some shampoo, and maybe a towel or two. More often then not they will adhere to your request and you'll receive everything you need to remain hygienically sound for at least a week. Never before has staying clean been so easy for those of us on a challenged budget.

These are two of the many clever devices that college kids are sometimes forced to employee during their time in educational hell. Perhaps they should look for a job on craiglist for a little extra money. Then they could afford a burger every now and then. I bet they get really sick of doughnuts.
