Task list
Nothing beats a task list. Keep a daily task list, with listed goals that you should meet with each day that passes. Chances are that you use a computer so before you leave work, make sure that you have a list of tasks posted on the desktop of your computer. Better yet, make an image of that task list and make it your desktop wallpaper so when you turn on your computer the next day, you know exactly what you have to do.
No to personal email
Checking your office email every five minutes is pretty much standard and it actually downloads automatically. However, this shouldn't be the habit that you keep with your personal email. Leave all personal email checking at home. The problem that arises here is that you will be wasting a lot of time checking what links your friends have sent you, reading up on jokes that have been forwarded to you, etc. This is totally avoidable. Personal email can also be checked once you have completed your tasks for the day.
The right music
Listening to the right music will actually help stimulate you to work harder. Not everybody has the same preference for music but if you know what kind of music gets you up to speed, make sure that you have a collection of songs of that particular genre. For example, classical music will help to boost your creative side. But for others it may be heavy metal music that will help them improve their work skills.
No music will help you think
There are also those who prefer the sound of silence to help them concentrate better. If you are the kind of person who enjoys the silence but can't get enough of it in the office, what you can do is turn those headphones into ear muffs. Wear them but don't actually listen to anything. Another advantage is that people who see you wearing the headphones will more than likely not disturb you thinking that you are busy with something else. You also don't want to be blasting any kind of music while you are trying to focus on something.
Water therapy
Water is the most important thing in any situation. Your body uses up a lot of energy in the office and needs to be properly fueled as the day goes on. Keep a huge bottle of water at your table so that you do not always have to get up and get a glass. This is so that you will not break your concentration at your desk because you had to get something else across the room. Drink lots of water while working to keep your mind and body refreshed and relaxed.
These are some of the few things that will help improve the way you carry out your daily tasks in the office. Although they may seem typical and easy to remember, you might be surprised that these are the first few things that you will forget each time you sit down at your desk.
