How to Stay at Home with Baby And Make a Good Income at the Same Time

Stacy J. Day
Many new moms cringe at the thought of leaving their precious baby in order to return to work. The too-short maternity leave that most jobs allow women to take seem to fly by as the moms are busy bonding with their new bundles of joy. They're also busy simply recovering from the drastic life-altering event that they've just undergone. Who wants to think about going back to work after such a short time to adjust to everything? Not many women do, especially breastfeeding moms. Many moms and dads also worry about hiring a good, responsible babysitter. It can be a very stressful time for both parents.

What new parents need to know is that the new mom doesn't have to be forced to go back to work following the birth of a child. Sure, it oftentimes takes two incomes just to make it these days, but after paying the high costs of childcare, which can exceed one thousand dollars a month, most parents realize that it isn't even worth it for the wife (or husband) to work. And if a couple has more than one child in daycare, the costs can quickly accumulate.

Some new parents have high-paying careers and make enough money so that paying high childcare costs isn't an issue. These women (or men) may choose to stay at home with their children for other reasons. Those reasons may include the fact that they simply don't want their children to practically grow up in daycare. The parent wants to be the one to be there for their child and witness all of their milestones.

Fortunately with all of the options that are available these days, families with a parent who decides to stay at home with their kids don't have to struggle to make a living off one income. With some effort it is possible to generate a full-time income from home, while caring for a new baby and/or other children. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, too. Some of the advantages of working from home are: freedom to work any hours that are convenient-even if it's late at night after the kids have gone to bed. If this is the time that a parent is most productive, then by all means, they should work these hours! Another advantage of working from home is all the money that can be saved in childcare. Yet another benefit of working from home is that the children will develop a lot less illnesses. Children in daycare are exposed to numerous types of viruses and bacteria on a daily basis, so it's no wonder they get sick so often!

There are many ways to make a living by staying at home. One way is to start a home-based business. Many people have talents such as writing, furniture finishing, web design, crafts, etc. If these skills are put to use, then they could help a person make a great deal of money. One good thing about starting this type of business is that an individual doesn't need a large amount of money n order to get started. Just enough money for supplies and advertising is needed, and a mom or dad should be well on their way to making a very nice income from home.

For those who don't wish to pursue an at-home business, then there are many ways to make a good living online. Below are some popular websites that employ people to work out of their homes. None of them require a start-up fee to work for them. Individuals work as independent contractors and must handle their own taxes.

ChaCha.com - This company launched about six months ago and currently employs over 30,000 guides, who have been paid over one million dollars. Guides make anywhere between $5 and $10 an hour by performing Internet searches for info seekers. ChaCha.com is different from any other search engines because it pulls up information from various search engine simultaneously, which saves time for busy individuals. The company is currently expanding and is expected to continue grow to become the best search engine there is. To become a ChaCha.com guide, check out: http://www.chacha.com/info/guidesignup.

Associated Content - Associated Content (AC) is a popular media site where people go to find out information about the topic of their choice. Stay-at-home parents can make money on this site by submitting original articles in which AC pays for. The price that AC offers per article, which starts at $5 and up, won't make a person rich, but there is no limit to the amount of articles that can be submitted, so a serious writer can make an unlimited amount of money. Signup at: http://www.associatedcontent.com

Alpine Access - This company out sources call center services using home-based customer service agents. The pay starts out at approximately $9/hour and agents have the freedom of setting their own hours. To get started, go to: http://alpineaccess.com/external/index.html

Speak-Write - This site pays approximately $12/hour for transcription work. Workers must have excellent typing skills, a foot pedal, as well as a few other requirements, which can be read at: http://www.speak-write.com/.

Constant Content - This site is similar to Associated Content but you get to set your own price for your articles! Again, authors won't get rich writing for this site, but a consistent writer can really supplement their income quite well. Signup at: http://www.constant-content.com/.

For whatever reason a parent decides to stay at home with their new baby and/or other children, a good income can be earned while simultaneously caring for their children. It just takes time, effort and persistence, and a parent can live the best of both worlds.

I've never heard of speak-write, but I don't have any foot pedal, even though I have good typing skills.

These are good resources for mums and dads who choose to stay home to look after their children. I can't imagine how hard it must be for those who are forced to return to work and and leave their children with childminders.
