Las Vegas is the home to many museums, parks and nature exhibits, and can be a very cool place to visit with your family or raise your kids if you know which areas of town are good for teens and children. However, one thing you absolutely have to remember when visiting Las Vegas in the summer is that Vegas is hot, hot, hot.

Every year in Las Vegas, many who find themselves unprepared for the heat are hospitalized, made seriously ill or even killed by the blazing heat in Vegas. The sun gets up to a cooking 108 degrees Fahrenheit on a regular basis, and can often climb much higher.

To protect your children from the harsh rays of the sun in Las Vegas, it's a good idea to put sunscreen on even for driving in your car. If you can afford it, tint your car windows. If you don't want to tint your windows, at least get a suction-cup mesh sunshade to protect your kids from the sun coming in from the windows in the car.

It is no joke that many people die every year in Las Vegas due to dehydration and heat exhaustion. The leaders of the City of Las Vegas have made sure that there is plenty of shade at parks and that all of the important buildings, such as libraries and recreation centers, are well-air conditioned. Regardless, kids doing a summer in Las Vegas will need to make sure to always carry sunscreen, lip balm, and plenty of water.

Remember, never leave your kids in the car in Las Vegas, even for a minute, summer or no. It would be nice if this were common sense, but in reality, children are left in hot cars in Las Vegas at a startling rate. If you want to avoid losing your kids, becoming a depressing statistic and looking stupid on the news, take your kids in with you.

If you are going somewhere you can't take your kids, then maybe you shouldn't be going there until you can find yourself a sitter. This goes for dogs too. In Las Vegas, it doesn't matter if you crack the windows, park in the shade and leave a bowl of water; simply the heat alone can kill a child, dog, and even some adults.

Even though it's hot outside, Las Vegas is a cool place for kids and teens to hang out. Kids, Teens, and adults who don't like to gamble are often surprised by the number of non-gambling activities available in Las Vegas. However, due to the extreme heat in Las Vegas, you must protect yourself from the harsh rays of the sun and the inherent desert dryness by preparing yourself for the weather.
