First off, I believe that we should expect to see a spike in downloads of Aerosmith music now that there is word that Stephen Tyler has left the group. It would not surprise me if some of the older Aerosmith hits passed some of the current radio hits in purchase and download popularity. This will be a nice business surge for these sites before the holiday season officially starts.
Next, do not be surprised if you become hard-pressed to find Aerosmith albums (I will always call them albums) at your local retailer over the next few days. Whenever a significant band breaks up, or someone dies, the albums fly off of the shelves. Stephen Tyler's leaving of Aerosmith will be an example for the future. In a week or so, retailers should become well-stocked in Aerosmith albums as they look forward to more increased popularity. Yet another nice surge before the holidays.
Let it not be forgotten that there is a Guitar Hero game that is based on the music of Aerosmith. With Stephen Tyler possibly gone from Aerosmith, sales of this game online and in stores should be expected to spike in the next few days. Again, a nice surge before the holiday season.
How many of us still remember the show in which surviving members of INXS searched American Idol style for a new front man. Joe Parry has already stated that the band is interested in finding a new lead singer now that it appears that Tyler Perry is out of the picture. How much ad revenue and interst could be generated by Aerosmith throwing their hat into the reality TV world?
On a smaller note, thin about all of the t-shirts with the Aerosmith symbol that will be spiking in the next few days now that Stephen Tyler may, or may not, be out of the band. This will generate a nice surge of money for those companies that sell, and print, these shirts. It will also generate a temporary cash cow for anyone else who makes any other type of Aerosmith memorabilia.
It will be interesting to see how the aspect of Stephen Tyler leaving Aerosmith effects that pre-holiday season business market. I also expect to see holiday purchases with the Aerosmith attached to surge. Happy holidays Stephen Tyler. I hope that all of your contracts are in order.
