How to Stop Biting Your Nails

Bitten nails look really unsightly, they are gnawed and ragged and that's not a good look. I know that it's hard habit to kick (I used to do it myself), sometimes you don't even realise that you are doing it, but if you want nicer looking nails, there are a few tips that can help you to stop biting them.

1. Apply a lightly scented moisturiser to your hands and over your nails. When you put your fingers in your mouth, you will get a really unpleasant taste.

Also try and find a nail strengthening moisturiser, this will help your nails to resist the damage that biting will cause.

2. There are many products available now that claim to prevent nail biting by coating your nails in a chemical solution that tastes really vile. Chose one that strengthens your nails at the same time. They are available from reputable nail care companies such as Sally Hansen and Nailene.

3. Get a manicure.

Either give yourself a manicure or get one done by a professional. Don't get your nails painted, if you haven't completely stopped biting them you will get really unsightly chips in your nail polish and you'll also get nail polish in your mouth.

Either get a simple shape and buff or an airbrush.

4. False nails

Whilst these are not for every day use, as they will do untold damage to your natural nails, applying these once in a while will help you stop biting your nails. Putting them in your mouth is a really horrible feeling. Also since they are either acrylic or plastic, if you bite them, you will leave a visible bite mark in them that will not go away.
