How Do I Stop Junk Mail?

Melvin Richardson
Have you ever gone to your mail box only to find that you were bombarded by a hundred pieces of junk mail? You probably had to sift through all of the junk to see if you had any legitimate mail. Well junk mail can be a nuisance especially if you receive a huge amount of it on a regular basis. It's also very time consuming to sort through not to mention all of the trees that have to sacrificed in order for you to receive something that you don't want. Fortunately, there is a way to stop all of the junk mail from coming to your address. To stop all of the junk mail from filling up your box all you have to do is have your name added to the do-not-mail list. Its simple all you have to do is send a letter along with $1 to:

Direct Marketing Association
Mail Preference Service
P.O. Box 282
Carmel, NY 10512
212-768-7277

Include your name and address in the body of your letter and request them to remove you from any mailing lists they may have. Every so often you probably receive mail addressed to current occupant or resident. Unfortunately DMA will not be able to stop these solicitation requests.

If you prefer to do this online you can go to www.dmachoice.org/dma/member/regist.action and download a mail-in form after you register.

When it comes to junk mail some of the biggest offenders are credit card companies. How many of these have you received which indicate you can receive a zero promotional rate for 12 months for balance transfers and purchases? You probably don't want any of these especially if you are trying to cut down on credit card use during these especially trying economic times. Some people receive a steady diet of these, as much as four or five offers per week. The good news is that you can put an end to these as well. If you call 1-888-567-8688 you can put in a request to stop these offers. This can be done for a 5 year term or indefinitely. If you prefer you can also tune in to www.optoutprescreen.com and put your request through online. Either way will prove to be effective. Your name is inadvertently added to various lists when you make purchases such as homes or automobiles or filled out an application for a credit card. Your name can be circulated to various lists.

Won't it be nice to walk to your mail box and not see a mountain of junk mail which you have no intentions of using or even looking through?

That opt-out feature is pretty nifty, plus if for what ever reason the consumer wants back in, they can call these numbers to opt-back-in. Thanks for sharing.
