How Do I Stop People from Tagging My Facebook Photos?

Jasmine Starr

Here is the scenario; you add photos to your Facebook and certain people come along and start tagging them! This drives you crazy because they are your photos! Not the ones tagging them! And you want it to stop. I have been there and done that quite a few times. It will absolutely drive you up the wall. Especially if it is an in-law or someone in the family that you don't want taking your photos. I have had to deal with that myself and I know first-hand how mad that can make you. Well, in this guide, I will explain how you can stop people from tagging your photos on Facebook. It won't be easy, but you can do it.

Stopping People From Tagging Photos

So what do you do? You tell them to STOP! No, that sometimes doesn't work or you may not want to be mean to them in order to not start drama. We all know how family drama can be and it is not pretty, especially if it is with the in-laws. So, follow these steps to stop this mess.

Basically what you are going to do is untag the photos the person has tagged. Once a person is untagged from a photo, they cannot tag the same photo again. In case you didn't follow me there, let me give you an example. Say I upload a photo to Facebook and you come to my wall and tag yourself in the photo I just uploaded. I can go to my photo, untag you and you can't tag that particular photo again. Understand now? So, how do I do that? Simple, follow these steps.

Go to your photo album on Facebook, one of the albums you know the person has tagged themselves in. Click on a photo to see the full size of it. At the bottom of the photo, you will see the person's name that tagged themselves in the photo. Beside their name, you will see the "remove tag" option. Click that link and the person will no longer be tagged in that photo.

Then go to another photo and do the same thing. Like I said earlier, there is no way to quickly stop them from tagging themselves, but once you go back through all of your photos and untag them, things should be a lot quicker from now on when they tag your photos. After you get them all untagged, you can quickly untag them from now on, as soon as they tag one.

If you are scared of an argument breaking out between you and the person once they catch on, simply tell them that is must be Facebook messing up again. I'm sure you know how much Facebook messes up. There is always something going wrong with that site. So, that would be a good way to avoid an argument if the person catches on to being removed. Or better yet, maybe the person will get the point without you having to say anything and will be afraid to approach you. I know how aggravating this can be and how mad it can make you, so I hope this will work for you.

Thank you so much for this article! My MIL continually tags herself in my photos. I don't mind in when she is actually in the photos or was present at that even, but she tags herself in photos of our honeymoon and dates. This is the perfect way to untag her in some of the more intimate photos of my husband and I without confrontation.
