Racism. One of the most controversial subjects of all time, if not the most. From the beginning of time, it has existed. From Bible times to the 21st century, always. Although many people today believe it was at its highest level during the 50's and 60's, racism had been at similar heights hundreds and even thousands of years ago.
As much as racism has dissipated over the past few decades, it's still very much alive today. The reason why it can't be stopped? Because most people don't even know what racism is. For example, when racism is brought up, the majority of people think immediately of whites against blacks. This is simple not true. Racism is whites against blacks, but it's also blacks against whites, Mexicans against blacks, Arabs against Indians, and so on.
This is the first step to stopping racism; recognizing what it is. People need to stop blaming it on one person or peoples and start taking responsibility for racism they might not even recognize they're doing.
The second step to stopping racism is thinking about life. Who created us? God. When God created us did he have in mind that one race was superior to another? Obviously not. It says so in the bible: "God created ALL man equal." Once we have realized this, we can determine that MAN was the one who created racism. Not God, not nature, not instinct, but man.
The next step is is thinking about why people are racist. People are racist against another human being because of their skin color. Sure, part of the reason is cultural differences between races, but has cultural differences deterred Europeans from getting along? Sure they've been at war at each other before, but each one has always had at least a few allies. Cultural differences can't be used as an excuse for racism. No, racism is about the color of your skin. But what does color even mean? Do blondes hate brunettes for having brown hair? No. Do blue eyed people hate brown eyed people? Once again, no! Something about skin is different than other attributes to humans. Maybe it's the fact that it can't be changed like hair and eye color (yes, eye color can be changed with contacts or surgery or by itself). Just maybe.
Finally, the last step to stopping racism is thinking about how stupid it is. Another human being hating another human being that is exactly the same as them, except for the fact that the color of their skin is a different color. You might wanna read that sentence again. Realize how stupid that sounds? The thing about racism is that you can compare it to hundreds of other things that do not cause any problems, which makes it even more stupid!
Some people are die-hard racist, who can never be changed out of their twisted mindset. But for the rest of the world, I have hope. If you can read some of these steps and recognize some of the problems with racism hopefully you can make changes and spread your attitude to other people; and recognize how stupid racism really is.
