The Federal Trade Commission has put into place the do not call registry which puts you in control when it comes to unwanted telemarketing calls. Unfortunately the do not call registry will stop most of those unwanted calls but not every single one. Every now and then you may still get a call or two after you have registered. In fact you can still get calls from people taking surveys, charities, and people that you have given permission to call. If you have a relationship with a company currently such as a credit card company they will probably still call you with various promotions and offers. To stop these types of calls you may want to call the credit card company directly and request that you not be called. These requests are normally handled in a timely manner.
After entering your request it should take approximately 30 days. If you are still getting calls after 31 days then you may want register a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, (FTC). They have these measures in place so that you can eat your dinner in peace without having to worry about an abundance of telemarketing calls.
If you decide to register simply go to www.donotcall.gov. You can also call the following toll free number:1-888-382-1222 or (TTY 1-866-290-4236). The registration is completely free and you should call the toll free number from the phone that you want to have removed. This website also gives you an option to verify if your phone number has actually been added. Go to the website and click on verify a registration. After being added to the do not call registry over 90% of consumers say they receive less telemarketing calls.
More and more people are starting to get these same types of calls on their cell phones. Well the do not call registry will also assist you with having your cell phone removed from this list.
