Go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/member/preferences/email/view After you have logged into your yahoo groups email settings, you will see in the left hand corner "add email address" Click on "add email address" if you don't already see your email listed in the spaces below. If you see your email addresses below, skip to the next paragraph. After clicking on the "add email address" input your email address in the text box and click on continue, enter your password as requested, and verify your email address by clicking the link in the email. After you have clicked on the link in your email to verify your account, it will ask for your password again, enter it and press verify. You will now get a message of congratulations. Click continue to Yahoo! It will now redirect you to the home page. You will then need to visit http://groups.yahoo.com/member/preferences/email/view again.
On the line with your email address at the end you see the word "Edit", click on that. A new page will appear. The top says "Group Invitations" and under that has two boxes to uncheck. Those are:
Allow group moderators to directly add me to their groups.
Allow group moderators to invite me to their groups.
After you have unchecked those, click "save changes"
You will now appear back onto your email preferences page. Under where it says Allow Invitations is should now read "No". Be sure to add any of your email addresses so you won't have to worry about those invites when they come in.
Because I am unsure how many email addresses yahoo holds, I would like to suggest another additional feature you can make use of.
When you click "Edit" by your email address, at the bottom you are offered Alternate Posting Addresses. You can post up to 5 more on each email address you have saved. Just be sure when you have added all your extra accounts you press "Save Changes" and not "Cancel". Other wise everything will be reset to what it originally was.
It's a shame that yahoo groups has it setup by default that you will be spammed against your wishes. Be sure to inform your family, and friends about this before they get sucked into yahoo groups thinking it might be a family member who invited them.
