One very important part of emergency planning is having some food. One would expect that at some point in time the government or charity organizations could provide food, but it's still a good idea to have some food storage of your own. A thirty day supply won't take too much effort to put together and will give you confidence if there is ever a situation where you have to depend on it.
While there are long term food storage products that you can purchase which will last years, you don't really have to use these at all. Most won't taste very good even though they do store well. You may or may not be able to cook them. You might not know how your body will react to this type of food especially when you are stressed.
The best way of having food stored is by storing the types of foods that you are already eating. Basically, your thirty day supply of food is simply rotated. Most people eat peanut butter. The next time you go to the store, buy one for your food storage and one to use. When you run out of the new one you just purchased, take out the one in the food storage container and replace it with another one.
With this strategy you don't have to worry about any of the food spoiling. You also already know how to cook and prepare the food that is stored. It's already the same food that you are eating. For children in a stressful disaster situation, having the food they are used to will give them at least some form of normal life that they are used to in a time where everything is different.
The worst thing that can happen is that you end up with thirty days of extra food that you always have on hand. It's such a simple thing to do that you should consider getting together this food just in case.
