How to Straighten Your Hair like a Pro

One of the most frustrating things as far as styling your hair goes is trying to achieve perfectly straight hair and failing. It usually takes more than a blowdryer and a brush to get the look that you are after. Here are some of my favorite products to use when I am straightening my hair; I guarantee a Hollywood look that will get heads turning!

Assuming you have just washed your hair and are about to use a blow-dryer, spray in Back to Basics' Thermal Styler Heat-Activated Setting Spray. This spray has green tea, shea butter, and silk protein to make your hair soft and shiny. It also protects your hair from any damage that may be done from the blow-dryer's heat. I recommend spraying it mostly on the body of your hair and avoiding the scalp as much, because this can cause greasiness later on-especially if you are prone to oily hair.

After your hair is dry (or if it has been dry all along), put some Tressa Original Formula! Aglaze Forming Lotion in your hands, rub together, and run your fingers through your hair. You should only need about a nickel-sized amount (dime-sized if your hair is above your shoulders). This lotion helps mold your hair into the style that you want, which means that you can basically depend on your hairstyle lasting all day. I live by this stuff. It also smells fantastic, which is always a plus. It does not add the stiffness to your hair that gel or mousse does, so everything looks completely natural.

At this point, you will want your straightener to be heated up and ready to go. I recommend the Sedu Ionic Ceramic Pro Flat Iron. When compared to the Chi straightening iron, the Sedu usually wins the fight. If you have light hair, leave the setting on about 120 to 140. If you have medium hair, aim for 160. With thick hair, you can probably go the whole way up to 200 degrees. If your hair is thick, or if there are layers, you may want to use clips to pin up the top layers so that you can straighten the bottom in order to have perfectly flat hair. If you would like to keep some volume, straightening only the top can give you a nice flounce. You might also want to try flipping up the bottom of your hair, Jackie O style! This means that extra moisture is escaping and your hairstyle will be locked into place until you wash your hair next.

You will look like a supermodel! Do not use too much, however, as it does get greasy. And like I said with the Thermal Styler Spray, focus on the actual body of your hair rather than the scalp.

Finish with a pair of oversized sunglasses and you are good to go!
