The First Step: You should always come to class on time. By doing this, you will learn more, avoid interrupting the class and avoid making the teacher go over material he or she has already covered for the day.
The Second Step: It is appropriate to behave. If you do this, you will likely draw praise. If you act up, you are likely to get in trouble.
The Third Step: It is important to try all of the time. By putting forth your best effort on your work, you give yourself an excellent chance for success while showing the instructors you are serious. Some of them, especially those who cover math, will not flunk students who cannot grasp the material and do well on the assignments or exams as long as they are doing their best.
The Fourth Step: You can score points by participating. One way you can do this is to answer questions that are posed to the class without being called on. Another is to volunteer to be the first to read a section of the course textbook out loud when it is time for the class to read something together.
The Fifth Step: You can try to catch up. If you have missed class time or you are falling behind, you should ask what you can do to make up for it.
The Sixth Step: You should put your full name on each homework assignment and test you turn in. Teachers do not like to spend time trying to figure out who did unnamed papers.
The Seventh Step: You must do your work professionally. The first way you can do this is to spell every word you write correctly. The second is to turn in your work before it is due. The third is to write your answers legibly and use good grammar.
The Eighth Step: You should show leadership. You can do this by volunteering to lead your group projects.
The Ninth Step: You must take the initiative to communicate when something is wrong. For example, if you have a learning problem, it is up to you to express that.
