Attending a university for the first time can be a new and exciting thing to first time students. Students just want to jump right in and starts studying right away, because students are excite to learn new information. When a student start school at a new University, the student believes if they study a lot they will pass all classes. Studying is the number one way to pass all of your classes but some students does not know effective ways of studying. Knowing ones personality and learning type will help student chose an effective way of studying. Many people read books but do not always comprehend everything they read. University of Phoenix has a host of resources that would make any students studies a lot easier. Education Resource not only supply articles to use a citation in papers but also helps correct APA writings. Before jumping into writing a paper student must reassure they are upholding academic honesty and managing their time wisely. Setting and achieving goals is very important in order to keep up with everything that's going on at the university.

First a student needs to know their personality and learning type. Knowing a personality and learning type will make studying easy. Personality helps determine what kind of intellect the student possesses. There are many different intelligence types; Bodily- Kinesthetic Ability to use the physical body skillfully and to take in knowledge through bodily sensation. Musical Ability to comprehend and create meaningful sound and recognize patterns. Naturalistic ability to understand features of the environment. Intrapersonal ability to understand one's own behavior and feelings interpersonal. Visual- spatial ability to understand spatial relationships and to perceive and create images. Logical- mathematics ability to understand logical reasoning and problem solving. Verbal- linguistic Ability to communicate through language(Keys to College) . There are four different learning types: Giver, Organizer, Adventure or Thinker. For example I am a Bodily- Kinesthetic Thinker. When I study in total silent in a corner I get bored and fall asleep. Becoming an Active thinker suggested that I study while listening to music, moving and rapping to learn, move fingers under words while reading. I read while listening to my favorite songs on the radio or MP3 player. It helps a lot because I use to get bored when I studied.

Then managing time wisely is the next most important thing. Learning how to manage time wisely will benefit students all through school and in life in general. In college instructors set deadlines for projects, papers, presentation and homework. Instructor set these dates to keep from having work piling up on the instructor to grade. Also the instructor has deadline to meet when turning in grades. At the University of Phoenix students have up to four days after the deadline to turn homework in for a grade. Once the three day grace period after the deadline has been reach, the student will receive F letter grade. The student average will go down or face failing the class. I was not very good at managing my time so my grade suffered. I plan to manage my time wisely in the future and make better grades.

Setting and achieving goals is another important factor when going to college. When setting goals students must have short term and long term goals. Short term goals are goals that are feasible within several week or few months. Long term goals are goals that takes a year or longer to achieve. Having a short goal allows students to see the progress they are making towards their long term goals. When setting goals students must set realistic goals. For example says your goal is to win the lotto and live off the winnings is an unrealistic goal. There is no guarantee you may win the lotto. Saying you wish to achieve an associate degree within a year is a more realistic goal.

Fostering reading comprehension and retention is the process in which you make sense of the words and vocabulary within a text. Reading to understand what a student read is a unique process. Understanding what you are reading is very important when it comes to studying. Students may read a book outside and inside and still will not be about to tell what the book is about. According to Becoming an Active Thinker many students struggle with retaining information after they read it. When students begin to struggle with understanding the subject most of the students think about giving up. Students should never give up always remember you will never master the material on the first pass, think critically, think positive and build vocabulary (Becoming an Active).

Academic honesty and plagiarism is a must read at any university. Students should really read the rules of plagiarism and academic honesty. Most students usually over look this section of the syllabus or handbook. Plagiarism is the act of copying another person work without citing where the student got the information. Academic honesty is confirming the information is in your own words or if you use someone else work then cite the work. Many students do not intentionally plagiarize. In fact many students do not know the correct way to cite certain works so they would leave the information in the paper but do not add the citation in the paper. Be care and mindful of this because a student can lose grades for plagiarizing. The student may even get expelled from the University for plagiarizing.

Axia's educational resource is very important tool. As a student you will find yourself using educational resources regularly. Educational resource is the library that has giant collection of articles about different subjects. This comes in use when writing papers about different subjects. Center for Writing Excellent proofread and check paper for plagiarism. This tool can help boost your grade in grammar and mechanics. Center for Mathematics Excellent helps student understand different concept being taught in their math book.

Student must study and work hard to pass class at the University of Phoenix. This guide will making passing class a lot easier. Sometimes knowing where to get the information is just as powerful as knowing the information. Following these simple step of knowing personality and learning type, managing time, setting and achieving goals, understanding what you read, academic honesty and education tools will make your transition into college life very easy.
