Today I am going to teach you how to style your hair into a "chopstick bun". Chopstick buns are a classic and very simple. The chopstick bun is perfect for those bad hair moments when you need to run to the store and don't want to look like a wooly mammoth, or when you are sitting at home with your boyfriend watching a movie and just being casual, or even to a party. The nice thing about a chopstick bun is you can mix it up with your own styles and techniques as you become more familiar with the do.
Here we go...
Step 1: Make sure you have a comb or brush (or both) out and ready for use. You are also going to need a chopstick. You can buy chopsticks at local multi-marts or some even at beauty stores. Your hair also has to be long enough for a complete twist around the bun you will be making, so if you have short hair this bun will not work for you.
Step 2: Do a quick run through with your brush or comb and get rid of any big knots that could cause you problems and hair pieces that may be sticking up.
Step 3: Gather your hair into one section at the back of your head. So pretty much just make a ponytail and hold it with your hand.
Step 4: Still holding the ponytail with your hand, you are going to rotate the tail in a counter clockwise direction once. Now the end of the tail should be facing upwards at the ceiling.
Step 5: Now there are two different ways you can go at this point; messy bun and classic bun. A messy bun is more free-flowing and a classic is more tightly wrapped to the head.
For a messy bun, wrap the remaining of the ponytail around your single twist.
For a classic bun, coil (twist) the remaining of the ponytail and wrap it around your single twist.
Step 6: Leave a little remainder of ponytail (1 or 2 inches). Now use the 1 or 2 inches of hair that is not wrapped around the bun, and tuck it up and underneath the bun. Now it should be touching the single wrap of the bun on the inside.
Step 7: Take your chopstick and you are going to start at the top of your head. Find the original single twist and shove the chopstick through it. Keep the chopstick close to your scalp. Continue to shove the chopstick through the original wrap and into the left over tuck you shoved up into the bun. Trap the tuck with the chopstick and continue shoving the chopstick completely through the bun. Now hold the chopstick in place by hooking some hair from the twist around the chopstick (do this to the bottom portion of the chopstick and not the top.)
And that's how you making a chopstick bun!
