How to Style Your Hair into Loose Waves

Amanda Furbeck
Breaking news on the fashion front: long, loose waves with lots of texture and imperfection are the hottest look for fall hair. So trade in your flat iron and your straightening balm for a little mousse and a set of hot rollers, or even a couple of curling irons. Here's how you can achieve this slightly rumpled, second-day look with Pantene Pro-V products and medium to long hair.

First, shampoo and condition your hair with Pantene Pro-V Medium to Thick Hair Solutions Flat to Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. Shampoo hair twice to remove any product build-up, and rinse thoroughly. Apply conditioner, especially to ends of hair, and allow to sit for a few minutes to penetrate the hair. Rinse for about a minute. Flat to Volume Shampoo and Conditioner will leave your hair shiny, manageable and voluminous. Using an absorbent towel, gently squeeze and blot excess water out of the hair. Don't forget to turn on your curling iron or your hot rollers.

Blow dry hair until it is about 80 percent dry, then apply a small dollop of Flowing Body Mousse. Use less mousse then you think you need; you can always add more as needed. Distribute the Flowing Body Mousse throughout the entire length of hair. If your hair tends to be flat, turn your head upside and finish blow drying it this way for volume. If your hair tends to frizz, blow dry your hair smooth by directing it downward with a flat brush.

Next, apply Pantene Pro V Heat Protection and Shine Spray. For best results, shake the bottle well and apply liberally to all sections of the hair. This will help prevent heat damage to your hair. Part your hair as you normally would.

If you are using hot rollers. start at the top of the head. Take small sections and randomly sized hot rollers. Starting at the ends of the hair, roll hair under and all the way up to the scalp, being careful not to burn your fingers or your scalp. Secure with clip. Do the entire top of the head first, working your way down until all sections of hair have been rolled. Lightly spray hair with Anti-Humidity Hairspray, and allow to cool. Carefully remove rollers once hair is completely cool and dry.

If you are using curling irons, part hair as you normally would, then clip up all but the bottom section of hair on the back of your neck (this is called the nape area). Roll hair in an underneath direction up towards the scalp, being careful not to touch the scalp with the hot curling iron. For best results, alternate sizes of curling iron, angling the iron upright as you roll it towards your head. Lightly spray the completed section with Anti-Humidity Hairspray and allow it to cool before bringing down the next section of hair. Use small sections to keep curls tighter and stronger.

After the hair has been completely curled and cooled, gently and carefully separate curls into smaller strands, being careful not to create frizz. Use a curling iron to touch up any sections that curl the wrong way. Shake out hair or rake fingers through hair as desired to leave a slightly disheveled look. Don't worry if some pieces are straighter than others or have smaller curls. Imperfection is the key to this look. Follow with another light coating of Anti-Humidity Hairspray, making sure to keep the can about 12 inches or more away from the hair.
