How to Succeed in College

Now a day's having a college education is one of the most importing things you can have. Getting a decent job without a college degree is next to impossible. This is why college needs to be taken seriously. You may have had excellent grades in high school, but once you get to college you will soon realize that it is no joke. You are going to have to work harder and provide more quality work. If you are not up to the task then I recommend you stop reading here and start practicing would you like fries with that. To make this clear I am not putting down anyone that may do that for a living because that may just be what they are good at.

The first and most important thing anyone in college must realize is that while it may be a fun time to go out and party and do things of that nature, it still needs to be taken seriously. What I mean by that statement is that college is supposed to be a fun time. You are finally on your own, and have the ability to do basically anything you want. It is supposed to be that way. However you can not get carried away by this life style and must understand that there is a time for work and a time for play. You will need to figure out when those time frames are going to be, and understand that you will have time for both.

Everything in college is basically based on tests. You may have homework which we will get into soon, and quizzes, but everything that you do is to get you ready for a test. Tests are usually the majority of your grade and therefore if you do well on tests you will do well in the class. This means you need t study hard for every test. Not just the day before, but weeks before. On days you get new material you need to briefly look it over to understand it. About a week before the test is when you need to get into test mode. This is when you start to review everything you might need to know for the test. You need to study this material until you can't get the questions wrong. A great football saying can be used here. Winners work until they get it right, legends work until they can't get it wrong. This pertains to college also. If you want to get good grades and succeed you need to work until you can't get it wrong.

Next we will focus on quizzes and homework. Like I said before quizzes and homework are designed to get you ready for the test. Depending on how your teacher gives you homework you need to do it right away. I'm not saying all of it right away, but as much as you can. The reason I say right away is because first you may have trouble on certain things that you may need to get extra help with. Secondly because you have no idea how long the homework will take you. Once you have completed it then you have time to chill or party, or do what ever it is you want to do to free your mind of school. Quizzes are almost the same as homework only you don't have all the resources for quizzes that you would for homework. You need to approach quizzes the exact same was as you would a test. Study the material you need to know until you can't get it wrong. It will only help you in the long run.

The final piece of advice I can give is to go to all of your classes. No matter what time they are at you need to go. You made you schedule so you need to put up with it. If you don't go to classes how are you going to get the new material presented to you in a proper way. A lot of times you can get class notes off the internet, but those will never help you if you don't understand the material that was presented at a lecture you weren't at.

College is not only a time of learning, but a time of fun and meeting new people. Somewhere in between though you need to find the happy medium and decide how much time you are going to devote to school, and then the rest to whatever it is you would like to do. College obviously comes first, and to succeed at college you need to first understand that is totally different than anything you have encountered before, and second you are going to need to work harder than you ever have before to come out on top.
