How to Succeed in the Network Marketing Industry

Wanda Nester
If you're new to the world of network marketing and are wondering how it all works or you've signed up with a network marketing company and don't know where to start, you need to first understand what the industry does.

The majority of people around the world cannot afford to start a traditional business because start-up costs can be extreme. Network marketing offers people a chance to own their own business with minimal start-up costs. Distributors can then sell products and build and manage their own sales force by recruiting, motivating, supplying, and training others to duplicate their efforts. The distributors' compensation includes their own sales and a percentage of the sales of their sales group (downline). In most cases, distributors are not required to purchase huge amounts of inventory, nor are they required to pay huge entry fees. For a minimal investment, a committed person can become a distributor and build a successful business. Another perk is that network marketing enables distributors to grow and progress at their own pace, achieving success as defined by each individual.

The power of network marketing lies in:

1. Word of mouth advertising (considered the most effective form of advertising today)

2. Sales and distribution channel that bypasses the middle man

3. Reasonably priced products and services that people consume in a short time

4. Ability to realize financial gain for helping others build a business

5. Building an organization of other independent distributors and customers below you (downline), and earning a percentage of their combined sales and/or purchases (Residual Income)

6. Achieving your personal financial goals

Many people join network marketing companies and are quickly disillusioned when they fail - often not even recouping the cost of their distributor packages. The simplest and most frequent reaction to this failure is to blame the company. However, the fact is that the biggest reason people fail is because they did not understand the industry and had no business plan in place. Simply stated, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."

From the moment you say yes to becoming an independent distributor, to the moment you hand over your credit card or write out your check for your new starter kit, you should already be formulating a plan that will immediately propel YOU in the direction that allows you to soar and expand your new business. This means you must have a dedicated schedule and method for building your business. Always be aware of the fact that your success will be in direct proportion to your personal efforts. It will require hard work and you will encounter skepticism and rejection more often than not. So if you are sensitive to rejection, you may want to shy away from this industry. However, if you realize that network marketing is a numbers game (the law of averages say for every X number of people you approach, a certain percentage will sign up), and keep plugging along, you definitely can succeed.
