1. Make a goal: Many groups fail to raise money because there is never a set amount they are shooting for. If you set an amount for which your group to strive, they will be more apt to participate and/or get enthusiastic.
2. Make it big: People get sick of having to do a lot of work doing little fund raisers that earn them crumbs. By doing one, big event, everyone's focus is all pointing towards the same direction and you won't tire out your help. If you are going to have to do a lot of work, might as well do it once and make it worth your while right?
3. Advertise like hell: You could have the greatest fund raising idea in the world. But if no one knows about it, then you are not going to make a dime. Making homemade flyers and posting them in dorms, common food places, local businesses ( if you get their permission) are great places to get the word out about your fund raiser. Also do some online advertising through Facebook, Myspace, and sites like that. This is free and spreads the word quickly.
4. Get donations: Try to get alumni of your group, parents, or local businesses to donate supplies or food for your fund raiser in exchange for a little advertising for them. This cuts on your costs and gives your workers and attendees something to munch on without eating your profits.
Here are some good fund raisers my group has been successful with in the past
1. Shuttle service: Provide rides to the mall, station, airport, etc for half the price of a taxi. Do this right before breaks. Post flyers and you'll make some good cash.
2. Benefit concert: Find a band willing to play for free so they can get their name out their. Flyer it up and have attendees bring money for a cause
3. Art Auction: Our alumni and talented members created art, donated it, and displayed it in a borrowed art gallery for one day. Advertise online and have members and alumni bid on pieces. This had almost no overhead and made over a grand.
4. CampusFundraisers.com: Several fund raisers offered that make money and never cost a dime. Have made over $1000 with this site.
These are just come of the ways to have a successful fund raiser. Hope this article has helped. Happy hunting!
