How to Have a Successful Job Interview

Preparing for the interview

It is said that in the first thirty seconds, one third of the decision to hire is made. Yep, looks do matter! No pressure right? Well, here are some tips just to make sure.

How do you look?

Make sure to wear appropriate clothing such as a traditional suit and tie for men. If you want to be a little more casual, try wearing nice pants, a tie, and a collared shirt. Make sure it's tucked in and don't forget your belt. Nice shoes are also a must.

Women have the option of choosing between pants or a skirt (make sure it's at knee lever or longer) with a blouse. It is recommended you wear pantyhose with a nice pair of shoes. Speaking of which, it is best if the shoes are closed-toed and no higher than two inches.

You want to look professional even if you're just applying at McDonalds!

Nice and Neat

Keep in mind your hair, nails, and accessories. Hair should look neat and clean, but most of all-comfortable. This is not the time to be experimenting on that new hair style you heard about since it can be uncomfortable during the interview. You do not want to keep fixing, touching, or playing with it. I am not a man, but I know you guys don't have big hair problems like women, which is why I suggest wearing a low classy ponytail or simply letting your hair down. Again, make sure it's neat!

Now it's time for makeup... how should you wear it? Carefully! It is highly recommended you wear little or light shades of makeup. Foundation and light eye shadow is perfect. You can wear eyeliner as long as it's not heavy.

And I did mention nails... yes; you also have to pay attention to that smallest detail. After all, you will be shaking hands with your prospective employer. Just make sure your nails are clean and that if you're wearing nail polish, that it is complementing and not chipped.

So what about accessories? They should all be in good condition and it good taste. I should also add that if you usually wear multiple sets of earrings, this would be the time to only wear one pair. And no hats please!

Do you smell that?

Don't overlook your smell! Bathe, brush your teeth, and if you want, wear light cologne or perfume. Just be careful not to overdo it. Some are more sensitive to smell than others.

So here is the first part to this guide and I really hoped I helped. Like I stated earlier, it's important to dress for success!
