Make sure you have a heavy-duty extension cord, a extension ladder, a hammer and needle nosed pliers. You will need to plan on plugging the Christmas lights into it a 120 volt GFI outlet. If you can purchase an automatic timer, this will make turning the lights on and off every day much easier. Make sure that you individually check each string of lights before you start hanging. Replace bulbs as necessary until you are sure that all of your string of lights are working. Using 50 light strings will be much easier than using 100, 150 or 200 light strings.
Now position your ladder at the point you would like to start to hang the Christmas lights. Make sure, that when using the ladder, you have assistance. Always try to use two people when moving the ladder. Also, have your helper hold the ladder each time you climb it. Make sure that the ladder is always firmly placed and against a good solid surface. Always think safety! Use gutter clips specifically designed for hanging Christmas lights, these can be purchased from your local department or hardware stores. You can also purchase nail-in clips for installing Christmas lights on the wood Corners of your house.
Using the appropriate clips that you have purchased, begin installing your strings of Christmas lights one at a time. Install one clip at a time followed by installing one string of Christmas lights at a time. You may need to use your needle nosed pliers to attach the string of Christmas lights to the clip. Next plug another string of Christmas lights into the one you just installed. Continue this process until you have installed Christmas lights on all the areas that you have chosen. It's best to try and use more than one outlet as the power source for your Christmas lights. This will help prevent overloading your circuits and blowing breakers. It's also best not to use staples or nails to attach your Christmas lights because you risk the chance of causing an electrical short.
Following the process described in this article will help you successfully hang the Christmas lights on your house. Make sure that you always think safety as you are working and take your time completing the installation. Always try to have another person to assist you. Now turn on those Christmas lights and enjoy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
