How to Have a Sucessful College Finals Week

Reba M
Finals week comes at least twice a year for college students and for some high school students. Colleges, professors and advisers tend to offer support and instruction to students on how to have a successful finals week, yet their advice always consists of three general ideas. These ideas are sleep, eat and study. There several other ways that can help students to having a successful and personally rewarding finals week.

1) Take A Break

By taking a break from studying, you give yourself time to process the information that you have studied and look at the material with fresh eyes. Sit back watch your favorite show, go bowl one game with your friends for class or attend a finals week event on campus.

2) Be Chill

The more put together, calm and chill you are about the up coming test and the studying process the more you will be able to absorb and retain for the exam. Do things that help you stay relaxed and sane throughout the week.

3) Move On

If one final goes not as well as one had hoped for, it is important to immediately move on from the disappointment. No one can absorb information or prepare for another stressful situation fully if they are still distracted about an event that happened in the past.

4) Prep Ahead

During Dead Week, be sure to organize all of the notes, returned tests and homework for each final. Prep by purchasing food for the week, packing things if you will be moving out during finals week, and simply complete any tasks that might cause additional stress or distraction during Finals Week.

5) Schedule

Find out the time, date and location of each final. Most schools have a limit of how many finals a student must take in a day, so be sure and talk to professors early if you intend to move a final. Spend time analyzing your schedule for the week of finals so that you can estimate the time you have to study for each final and when you plan to study for each final.

6) Eat Well

Try as much as possible not to eat differently during finals week then you do during every other week of your life. By eating the same types of foods and the same times you usually eat, your digestive system will be better suited to handle the stress of taking and preparing for finals.

7) Shower and Primp

Take fifteen minutes to shower each day! By showering, doing your hair, wearing clean clothes and looking your best you will have the confidence needed to help you do better on each exam. If you do not feel good about yourself, there is no way for anyone to feel confident about what they have learned and studied.

What about sleep? Seems like it should be on the list.
