How to Make Sulfate / Detergent Free Shampoo

It's a Lot Easier Than You Think

J. McDaniel
Making your own shampoo is not only quick and easy, but it's healthier for you as well. Most shampoos on the market today contain harsh detergent chemicals that not only strip your hair of dirt and excess oil but also strips it of the essential oils it needs.

For this you will need the following ingredients:

Fruit juice or fruit concentrate
Lemon juice
Pectin

Take the container you plan on using for your shampoo and fill it half way with the fruit juice or concentrate. Then fill up the other half with lemon juice, leaving a little space at the top for the pectin. Add about ½ - 1 tbsp of pectin for every 2 ounces of cleansing formula. Shake or stir for three minutes, then allow to sit overnight. In the morning your liquid should have formed a more solid gel type consistency. You're ready to go!

Some other ingredients you might want to try adding to this:

Tea tree oil
Fragrance oil
Shea Butter
Coconut milk

The shelf life on this is about a month, longer if you refrigerate the mixture in between uses. Works great for "no poo" regimens.
