How to Have a Sunrise Picnic

Bridget Ilene Delaney
If you like going on picnics, but you find that the weather is too hot in the afternoon, why not go on a sunrise picnic when the sky is pretty and the weather is cool? It may sound like a lot of work, but the day can start wonderfully.

You Will Need the Following:

Picnic Basket

Food (Prepared the day before the picnic)

Blanket

Vehicle of choice (if not walking)

Dishes

Prepare the Food

Decide on the food that will be had for breakfast on the previous day. Make sure that they are foods that can keep in a picnic basket and do not need much warmth to be enjoyed. If the foods have to stay in a refrigerator, they can be kept in there until the morning or if there is room, the entire picnic basket can be kept in the fridge.

Prepare the Picnic Basket

Put the food that will be eating into the picnic basket, making any food that should not be left unrefrigerated is either not in the basket and in the fridge or that the entire picnic basket will go into the fridge. Also, make sure to put dishes into the picnic basket. If not wanting to be wasteful, use plastic dishes that can be washed and reused.

Get the Blanket Set

If driving to the area where the picnic will be had, make sure that the blanket is in the car on the previous night. However, if you are walking or riding bikes, make sure the blanket is inside and by a door where you will grab it before leaving the house.

Set Up the Picnic

When you get to the area where you will have the picnic, lay the blanket flat on the ground so that bugs will not bother you when you sit. Put the picnic basket on the blanket. Either serve the food or let the participants in the picnic serve themselves the food from the picnic basket.

Enjoy the Picnic

Let all participants enjoy eating food, watching the sunrise, and talking with each other.

Clean Up the Picnic

Clean up the whole picnic. Throw away any trash in trash cans. Put containers back in the picnic basket. Pick up the blanket and either carry it or put it back in your vehicle. Continue with your day by bringing people where they need to be and going where you need to be. Once the picnic basket is back home, take out the dirty dishes and containers, wash them, and put them away.

The Quick (and Lazy) Way

If you like the idea of an early morning picnic, but you would rather be lazy, you can take a blanket and a picnic basket to a restaurant that is open early and pick up breakfast. This food can be taken as a picnic to a park or other good picnic area. Set up, enjoying the picnic, and clean up just like in the previous instructions. However, it is not as fun as making your own food and enjoying it.

It doesn't look like any woodpeckers will be making noise at this picnic. We have a few that chip away at the trees during the spring and summer and are as noisy as can be.

You can also freeze bottles with water or ice packs and put them in the basket to keep things cold.
