How to Support Breast Cancer by Observing the International Day Dedicated to the Disease

Breast Cancer is the Most Common Tumor Among Women

On the celebration of International Day for Breast Cancer which is held on October 19, the Federation of Breast Cancer (FBC) wants to see all women voice against this disease.

A manifesto for health

Cancer is a disease that arouses more questions in the medical community. Fortunately, in recent decades they have been able to solve some of them, providing, as in the case of breast cancer, very high percentages of successful treatment.

We need a cohesive health system to avoid inequalities. Jeff Rogers from the FBC explains, "It is not acceptable to have health services that are covered by autonomous and not by others."

In the same manner, the FBC is calling for greater promotion and screening campaigns since, with periodic reviews, are the most effective weapon to control and overcome the disease.

One in eight

It may sound a dramatic, but Ramon Coler, head of the Society for Medical Oncology (SMO), recalls the importance of celebrating this day to spread awareness through information, women and society as a whole.

It is estimated that "one in eight women will suffer from this tumor over her life," explains Coler. "Breast cancer is a success story as they have made significant improvements for a cure".

Much to improve

Without a doubt, there has not been a breakthrough in terms of treatments and research. The goal now would be, explains Martin, president of the Group for Research on Cancer Mama (GRCM), "In getting zero relapse rates"

All this is related to a cure, sometimes unnecessary treatments can cause the patient both short and long term problems.

In order to ensure that we have achieved this goal; we must remember the rights of the patient to choose how to be treated. To achieve this, it takes a lot of information, so that, once a diagnosis is made, they have more time to decide on the treatment as recommended by the Doctor.
