How to Support the Troops: TreatAnySoldier.Com & AnySoldier.Com

I do not presently have any friends or family presently serving abroad in the armed forces. Unfortunately, the same is not true for millions of other Americans. Despite any political beliefs I may have regarding the war on terror, I wholeheartedly support the young men and women serving their country. Perusing the internet I stumbled upon what I consider to be the best and most direct way that you can assist troops in making their stay abroad as comfortable as possible on a website called anysoldier.com.

This website allows PFC's, SGT's, LTs, etc to post what type of items their soldiers are requesting, how many male and female soldier there are and even to come back on and update their status. Common items that are requested are things that may just be lying around your home unused such as DVDs, Magazines, calling cards, Snacks (healthy and unhealthy), toiletries, and other everyday items. They even try to list what type of amenities they have available at their disposal so you may send relevant items. If you are at a loss as to what to send there is another website TreatAnySoldier.com that packages and ships care packages for you!

Many of the most requested items can be picked up at a dollar store or at your local pharmacy for a mere couple of dollars. The reason why this website appealed to me is because you are sending the package directly to a soldier rather than donating money to an organization where only a portion of it may actually go towards the soldiers. The best part about the cost of sending care packages is that the actual address that you are sending it to either goes to New York or to San Francisco, so you only have to pay shipping to one of those two destinations and you may chose which. Additionally, if you do not have the money to spare you can always just send a letter or a postcard to these addresses, as that is often the most requested item from soldiers. Just a small message of support or encouragement (and if you have an organization or a class room they can all participate) could brighten someone's day.

Any Soldier Inc. started as a simple family effort to help Army Sergeant Brian Horn, who was one of the 1,000 soldiers who parachuted into Northern Iraq on March 26th, 2003.
