Lots of people ask what must you do this year for Christmas because of all the drama that has surrounded the China made toy recall by Mattel. Considering there have been over 21 million toys that where recalled the choice for buying toys have become limited. The first thing that you want to do before buying your children and other children toys is to be informed of everything that is going on search the web, look at the news often. Being updated on what is safe and what claims to be safe is key. Note that the recalls from the Mattel toys where based upon lead being in the paint and small magnets, along with other small parts that could easily fall off and be ingested or easy for your child to choke on.

If you are informed properly your gifts should be swell. For instance you can find the products that are made by companies that you trust. Yes there are millions of toys that are made by Mattel, but not all toys are made by this particular company. A day before going shopping check the web for updated recall list. This is so you will be informed about what has been recalled recently. Be sure that when purchasing toys that the manufactured name are displayed.

Shop at the toys store that you are familiar with. This can be a valuable source cause retailers are informed of mostly all toy recalls and have the knowledge of what is safe and what is not. Note that it is very important to follow the appropriate age for any product that you are buying. This matter has nothing to do with recalls, but the extreme safety of your child could be at risk. It has everything to do with safety don't get a 2 year old a product that is labeled for a 4 year old. If you should do this you will be putting that child at risk.

One of the main things to be on the look out for is the products that mostly younger kids place in the mouth. They are the types of toys that should be on the top of the list due to the lead that could be in the paint so be very careful and informed. For smaller kids a list of things that you can look for are any toys that have small parts, splinters, strings, anything that smells strongly of toxic or fuzz. Any toys that appear to you that can get stuck down a child's throat you should not purchase.

If what you are planning on buying don't appear to look right go with your instinct and don't buy it. You would think that fabric toys are safe, but some are not so be caution even when buying them as well. Note that there are still good lead free toys out on the market today you have to just be more skeptical of what you are purchasing for the little people in your life. When ever you do go to the store to buy toys don't go in a rush go when you have lots of spare time on your hand so you will be able to look and choose wisely.
