Improving our home's look, feel, and function is vital to surviving your family gathering, such as, a family reunion . If you only your immediate family celebrates together or if you have numerous family members, come to your home during the gathering there are small things, you can do to ensure you do not pull your hair out while trying to be a great host.
Remove all unnecessary items from your gathering area in your home and your kitchen. Some items to consider removing are dishes you do not use on a regular basis, unnecessary cookbooks, and items gathering dust. Store these items in boxes, which you marked, this ensures you can find the items quickly to replace them when the gathering is over, and your life resumes back to normal.
Make a list of everything you need. Include your menu complete with shopping list, accessories, and everything else you need to host your gathering. Start shopping as soon as you complete your list. Allow yourself at least 3 days to complete your list, as you may forget to add something to the list the first day you sit down to compile it.
Get everyone in your home involved. Preparation for the gathering will run smoother if you have help. Remember it is not up to only you to prepare your home for a special day or evening with family and friends. Assign chores to each family member daily, and ensure they complete the chores. This prevents you from stressing out over completing everything and ensures you have time to enjoy the holidays as well.
Start cooking ahead of time and freeze dishes. If you bake cookies and/or pies, these freeze well and can be prepared and cooked weeks before your gathering. Side dishes freeze well too. Think about the dishes you will be serving at your meal, and what ones will last in your freezer and reheat tasting as if you just cooked them the morning of your get together.
Prepare a budget while you plan your family gathering. This ensures you do not go into unnecessary debt while trying to host the gathering of your dreams. Allow a specific price for each item you wish to purchase and shop around until you find the item at or near the price, you allotted. A little preparation can save your bank account.
In addition, lastly do not forget to allow time for yourself. This ensures you enjoy the family gathering (reunion) as much as everyone does.
When the family gathering is over, you have prepared your boxes and can quickly put your home back to the way it was before, ensuring you have time to relax.
