How to Survive on a Fast Food Diet

Eating Right on Fast Takeout Food

Lee
When you work full time and have children, or other things that take up most, if not all, of your time, you know the drive-thru pretty well. If fast food is a necessity in your life, you can benefit from these tips. How can you still keep your figure while eating out? It is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is have self-discipline in the drive-thru.

Not all people can eat a salad while driving down the road, it is just not feasible. There are many other choices that you can make, though. For instance, at Burger King you can order a Junior Whopper without mayonnaise, pair it with applesauce or onion rings and cut out roughly 9 grams of fat (if you choose the rings) and about 250 calories. Add mustard instead of mayonnaise and you instantly start to metabolize fat. Mustard has been proven to help burn calories when you eat it. There are also tasty choices that are low-fat and low calorie. The Tendergrill with honey mustard sauce has only 10 grams of fat and 450 calories, it's a big sandwich which will fill you up.

Soup is also a great choice. Most fast food restaurants offer some kind of soup, whether it is chicken noodle or chili. Forget the fries and have a bowl of fulfilling soup.

There are also many fruit sides now offered at fast food restaurants. Some offer apple slices with caramel sauce, mandarin oranges, applesauce and fruit salads or parfaits (served with yogurt and sometimes a yummy granola topping!), these are always a great choice.

Here is a sample menu of what I have eaten while working in fast food. A Tendergrill patty and side salad, applesauce and a low-fat milk have helped me to shed pounds. Burger King also offers ham and cheese sandwiches which are always a lower fat choice to take on the go. I eat these with mustard to help curb the calories. During breakfast hours I turn to ham instead of more fattening sausage or bacon. Instead of fries, which is a tempting choice in some restaurants, I try baked potatoes or a fruit substitute. I also have substituted mayonnaise for mustard and stopped ordering cheese on anything.

It's easy to cut calories here and there and see many big results. When you normally eat a double cheeseburger, try taking off the cheese or eating it without the bun. Instead of ordering an adult sized value meal, order a kids meal with a larger drink, or better yet a bottle of water. The small fry and smaller sandwich is portioned to what adults should be eating anyway. It helps you from eating that medium fry when you have half of the portion to eat from. Another great choice is to not use a ranch dip and use ketchup instead. Ranch cups, at most restaurants range in fat grams from about 5 to 15 grams per little cup. That can add up fast when ketchup has zero fat and only 15 calories for every tablespoon.

There are many ways to enjoy the taste of burgers and fries without the added calories. Smaller sandwiches and smaller fries can fill the craving for a burger but without the bigger portion. Add on a yogurt or salad and you have quite a meal. Losing weight and eating out can go hand in hand, all you have to do is pre-plan your menu choices before going out. You can use the internet to check out almost all fast food restaurants nutritional menus. Print and save those and you can make healthy choices every time you eat! Soon you will see the results and you will feel better about eating at fast food!
